25. Wealth Nourishing a Weak Seven Killings
In Bazi, cai (Wealth) is the phase controlled by the ri zhu (Day Master), while qi sha (Seven Killings, also rendered Indirect Officer in some schools) is the force that controls the Day Master. The phrase cai zi ruo sha (Wealth nourishing a weak Seven Killings) describes a relationship in which Wealth supplies or strengthens a Seven Killings that is initially weak. It is a structural observation, not a promise of status, danger, punishment, or any fixed life event.
The key question is functional: can the complete chart use the newly supplied Seven Killings, or does the Wealth first exhaust an already weak Day Master? Wealth is not automatically favorable because it produces Seven Killings, and Seven Killings is not automatically harmful because it exerts control. The result depends on seasonal command, roots, support, climate, visible and hidden qi, and the chart's other regulating relationships.

The Wikisource-hosted text of San Ming Tong Hui (Comprehensive Record of the Three Commands) contains separate discussions of lu and prosperity, Ten Gods, Officer and Seven Killings, and regulation. Transmitted pattern labels such as cai zi ruo sha belong to that broader technical vocabulary. They should not be read as evidence that every historical commentator used one definition. The work is a later compendium of received materials, and online transcriptions and editions do not constitute a single critical text.
cai zi ruo sha — “Wealth nourishing a weak Seven Killings.” In this article the phrase is treated as a compact diagnostic label, not as a complete judgment.
This topic is narrower than a general article on Seven Killings, Mixed Officer and Seven Killings, or Eating God controlling Seven Killings. Those methods ask different questions. Here the issue is whether Wealth is the source that makes a previously insufficient Seven Killings functionally present, and whether the rest of the chart can carry that change.
Prerequisites before reading the relationship
First identify the Day Master and the Month Command, then determine the Five-Phase relationship that makes the selected stem a Wealth factor and another stem or branch a Seven Killings factor. Do not identify Ten Gods from a memorized character list alone: polarity matters. For example, one polarity may be Direct Wealth while the other is Indirect Wealth, and one controlling stem may be Direct Officer while the other is Seven Killings.

A disciplined reading sequence
- 1. Establish the roles. Name the Day Master, Wealth, and Seven Killings. Record whether each is a Heavenly Stem, a visible stem derived from a branch, or only a hidden stem.
- 2. Test the Seven Killings before Wealth is considered. Ask whether it has seasonal support, a root, a repeated source, or a route into the chart's active qi. “Weak” means functionally insufficient in this chart, not morally inferior or necessarily absent.
- 3. Test the Wealth. Is it rooted and seasonally available? Is it Direct Wealth, Indirect Wealth, or mixed? A single unsupported stem and a well-rooted branch do not carry the same weight.
- 4. Trace the generation. Confirm that the Wealth can actually produce the Seven Killings under the chart's phase relationships. A nominal Ten God label is not the same as an operative flow.
- 5. Reassess Day Master capacity. Wealth is controlled by the Day Master and can consume its available qi. If the Day Master is already unable to carry Wealth, nourishing Seven Killings may increase pressure rather than create useful structure.
- 6. Look for support and regulation. Resource may support the Day Master or transform Seven Killings
- Eating God or Hurting Officer may regulate a killing under a different method

- 7. Separate natal structure from timing. A luck pillar or annual layer can temporarily expose a root or source. It does not rewrite the natal chart, and one arriving stem cannot by itself prove a complete pattern.
A practical synthesis often asks whether the chart has enough Day Master capacity to receive Wealth and enough order for the Seven Killings to become usable rather than chaotic. “Usable” is an editorial description of coherence within the traditional model. It is not a claim that the person will achieve a particular occupation, relationship, income, or outcome.
Fictional teaching example
Consider a fictional chart with a Bing Day Master in a warm seasonal setting. A Geng stem, treated here as Seven Killings for this Day Master, is visible but has no clear root. A Wu Earth Wealth factor is also visible and has seasonal support. The first pass might call this a possible Wealth-nourishing-weak-killing configuration: the Wealth has a route to generate the weak Geng. That is only a hypothesis.
The reader must then inspect the other pillars. If the Bing Day Master has strong seasonal and rooted support, the chart may be able to carry the extra controlling force. If the Day Master is not actually well supported, the same Wu Earth may consume its usable qi while feeding Geng, producing a different assessment. If a hidden Shen branch gives Geng a strong root, the Seven Killings was not weak in the first place. If a combination changes the phase flow or a clash removes the Wealth's root, the proposed route may be interrupted. The example demonstrates method, not a prediction about a fictional person's career or fate.
Commentator and school differences
One school may reserve the label for a visible Seven Killings nourished by clear Wealth and require a strong Day Master. Another may use it descriptively whenever the phase flow exists, even if the relevant factors are hidden. Some readers prioritize the Month Command and pattern identity; others begin with qi, climate, roots, and function before naming a pattern. Some emphasize Resource as the safer route for transforming Seven Killings, while others give greater weight to Food or Output regulation. These are interpretive priorities, not interchangeable definitions.
The English rendering also varies. “Seven Killings” is retained here because it is the site's established term; “Indirect Officer” is a common alternative for qi sha, but it can make the phrase sound like an ordinary administrative title. “Wealth nourishing weak Seven Killings” is preferred over a literal sentence because it preserves the conventional pattern name. No translation should erase the polarity and phase logic behind the label.
Common errors
- 1. Treating any Wealth beside any controlling stem as a finished pattern.
- 2. Calling Seven Killings weak without checking roots, hidden stems, seasonal command, and repeated sources.
- 3. Assuming that more Wealth is beneficial because Wealth generates Seven Killings, while ignoring a weak Day Master or a damaged Resource.
- 4. Confusing this method with Eating God controlling Seven Killings, Mixed Officer and Seven Killings, or a general Officer structure.
- 5. Reading “nourishing” as a moral claim, or turning the label into a prediction of authority, conflict, crime, illness, or danger.
- 6. Using a luck pillar as proof of natal structure without separating natal evidence from temporary activation.
Terminology and responsible-use note
This article adopts cai (Wealth), qi sha (Seven Killings), ri zhu (Day Master), and cai zi ruo sha (Wealth nourishing a weak Seven Killings). “Indirect Officer” is listed as a principal English variant, not used as a replacement. Direct Wealth and Indirect Wealth remain distinct when polarity is relevant. The terms describe relationships inside a traditional interpretive system; they do not diagnose a person, establish character, or validate scientific prediction.
Use the method as a historical and symbolic reading exercise. Do not infer death, disease, marriage outcomes, wealth, crime, disaster, personality, or fixed destiny from this relationship.
